Which pally spec is tank
It provides an absorb to help smooth damage intake when you get frequent Grand Crusader procs. This is your go-to talent on this row for dungeons and Mythic Plus. Crusader's Judgment : Increases your Holy power generation by granting a second charge of Judgment and resetting its cooldown on Grand Crusader procs. This is your go-to talent on this row for raiding. Moment of Glory : A weak talent that gives you three 3 Avenger's Shield with no cooldown. It can be a burst of Holy Power but Grand Crusader procs can consume one of the casts meaning you lose one.
Repentance : A long-duration CC. It puts you in combat if you're too close to the enemy being CCed, and has limited application in terms of target types. You should only consider this if your group composition needs another crowd control. Blinding Light : A solid CC option. Due to it counting as being as a Blind, it is very unlikely to be DRed by other classes, and sometimes works on mobs that are immune to stuns.
Unbreakable Spirit : The reason to take this talent is to be able to use Ardent Defender more often and help smooth out your damage intake. This talent can synergize well with Resolute Defender. You should take this if you don't need Blessing of Spellwarding. Cavalier : This should help you get around faster.
Pick this if you want mobility especially in open world content. Blessing of Spellwarding : This talent replaces Blessing of Protection and provides total immunity to magic effects damage and application of debuffs to a target. It is worth noting that direct spells will be thrown on the next highest aggro target if caster enemies only cast spells, The spellwarded target is considered immune to them. Divine Purpose : Adds a proc to the rotation when you use a Holy Power spender to get another Holy Power spender for free.
It can proc off itself leading to some fun chain procs! This is a solid DPS and defensive talent. This should be the default defensive choice on this row in most situations. Holy Avenger : This is a burst Holy Power talent. It can lead to a lot of healing output if you use it well.
It can also be used for burst damage if planned well. For DPS, you should sim it against the other two options. Seraphim : It converts some Holy Power to extra secondary stats. There could be a one off situation where you want to take it but more often than not, it will be worse than the extra self-healing from Divine Purpose. Base idea is to first use any 6 second cooldown spell, then 9 second, and then 6 again. Note that Holy Shield and Consecration actually are 8 seconds cooldown but there is no way to utilize this one second without messing up the whole rotation.
The order of the 6 sec abilities can be changed among themselves according to personal preference, so are the 9 sec abilities. Consecration can be left out in situations where AoE damage is not desired, or occasionally be replaced with Exorcism, Holy Wrath or Avenger's Shield.
No matter how good your gear and skill is, you will still face situations that threaten your life from time to time as a tank. Paladins have several panic buttons. At low health, they can restore all of their own health with Lay on Hands. Note that Paladins have also access to Divine Shield wich makes you invincible for 12 seconds.
Using it is not recommended, since it makes all mobs attacking at you to de-aggro for the duration. Fears, stuns, other crowd control, and most debuffs can be quickly removed by using Divine Shield and immediately canceling it made easier through the use of a macro.
Because of major changes between The Burning Crusade and Wrath of the Lich King , there are some misconceptions around Paladin tanking that can be addressed. Because of Blessing of Sanctuary , combined with Spiritual Attunement and Divine Plea , mana supply should not be a problem for a Paladin tank. If you are running out of mana, check that you are using Blessing of Sanctuary ; you may accidentally overwrite it with a greater blessing when grouped with other Paladins.
At level 80, Paladins should not be stacking spell power for tanking. Spell power does benefit Paladins by boosting holy damage from many major threat-generating abilities.
However, Paladins are intended to get their spell power through Strength with the talent Touched by the Light and not by stacking it directly as it provides inferior threat compared to the other options.
Level 80 gear with spell power has stats oriented toward healing. Paladins benefit far more from gear with Strength , high Stamina and defense.

This talent is more useful for Holy paladins for reducing spell pushback for other healers in the group. The slight increase in stun resistance and reduced chance of spells being dispelled bring little to no benefit for Paladin tanks in PvE scenarios. This is more a PvP talent. This talent provides much more crowd control utility for dungeon tanking compared to raid tanking, as the majority of mobs in raids are immune to stuns.
This talent can be very useful for dungeon and AoE tanking, however, since it means being able to get more procs of Seal of Wisdom for more mana regen. If raiding in casual environment and wanting to tank as safely as possible, it is recommended to not spec into this talent.
If raiding in a hardcore environment where threat generation is a larger concern than survivability, then it is recommended to consider speccing into this talent. To maximize the use of this talent if specced into it, use a weapon with 2.
Obtaining this talent is necessary in order to be able to spec into Holy Shield. The buff provided by this blessing is also useful for damage mitigation and additional damage from blocks when dungeon tanking, AoE farming, or boosting. Provides slight amount of mitigaiton against incoming spells. Nowhere close to being as powerful as the Warrior's Spell Reflection ability.
The stamina bonus provided by this talent will greatly improve your HP and overall survivability. This talent has a bit of a polarizing reception, especially for raid tanking builds.
Ardent Defender provides passive damage reduction at low HP. This talent can be useful for surviving many situations in which healers may be struggling to keep you up, however, it comes with some caveats. This effectiveness and uptime of this talent increases with the more HP that you have. Holy Shield is the most critical defensive ability for Paladin tanks. The block chance bonus provided by this ability enables Paladin tanks to achieve immunity against Crushing Blows, which is critical for surviving against raid bosses in TBC.
Maintaining this ability active at all times is required to stabilize your damage intake. Libram of Repentance increases the Block Chance of holy shield by 5. The damage dealt by blocks from this ability scales with Spellpower, and can be resisted like a spell. This talent effectively makes Protection Paladin tanks the best tanks against fast hitting bosses such as Prince Malchezaar since they are guaranteed to block up to 8 hits every 10 seconds, which is double the rate of Protection Warrior tanks with Improved Shield Block 2 Blocks per 5 Seconds.
Avenger's Shield provides Paladin tanks with multi-target ranged pull capabilities. This ability acts as an extremely powerful opening ability when starting fights, especially when complemented by Avenging Wrath. Avenger's Shield is affected by Physical Hit chance.
