Can you baja super beetle

As far as the years go anything under 74' is smog exempt. Not the best combo. Half of 69 and newer were ball joint and IRS rears. Ball joint spindles are stronger than link pin spindles, but the ball joints them self are weak when you over extend them. You can't get as much travel out of a ball joint as you can a link-pin. Same as the rear, IRS has the pontential of more wheel travel but has more moving parts which means more things to break.

A poorly set up rear pivits is worse than stock parts. They sell almost any kit you can think of to do anything you want in any direction with the bug. If you are going to fully cage the car and can support the front end well, mounting the link-pin on a ball-joint front end is as easy as anything else when you cut out the tunnel.

The rear takes alot of measuring and cycling to make sure everything is correct. Good luck, Don't be afraid to ask any questions. See you out there. DailyPedal Well-Known Member.

Website www. First off, 65 was the last year for link pin front. I would look for a clean 68 or later bug. The cars are much easier to find and quality seals, door handles and other stock parts are still available as they are the basis for the Mexican beetles. If you want to cruise through the desert, these are great stock-think class 11, or class 9 suspension mods. If you want to go hardcore, than none of the stock suspension or suspension mount points would be kept anyway so who cares if it came with link pin, ball joint or IRS.

After all, that is what welding and fab tools are for. OK for one building your own doesn't have anything to do with ego.

Its about pride. When you build your own you get all the experience from it. Also its better to build your own because you'll know it from inside out. If anything goes wrong or you need to change something it will be simple. Also I have a 70's bug. I like everything about it. Theres so many kits and after market crap.

If your doing mild offroading and street driving I'd start with a chenowth class 11 cage. Its a strong cage that you get to weld together but everything is already bent and notched.

It is a good cage to build off of for shock towers and stuff. I just got my bug and I'm going to pick up my class 11 cage in june so i've got the same deal as you.
