Can you use ez pass with a trailer
If I register the truck and trailer, can I still register my Focus? The Focus will see more highway activity than the will. You don't need to register the trailer. When you register they ask how many transponders you need for your vehicles. Nothing for the trailer is required. The scales and sensors know if your towing. It's much easier than it sounds.
I think you also get a small discount for using it. I don't know what your Focus has to do with towing your boat. With EZ Pass, there is no transponder needed when trailing. At lest in Mass. I use to tow and yes in Mass your trailer has to be registered. Every state is different on registration and Mass uses EZ Pass too.
I had no problems with the truck going though the tolls. Here is the funny part and it only happened twice out of hundreds of times. I got a notice in the mail for non payment with a pic. The pic was the back of my boat with the plate numbers of the trailer.
Nothing on the truck!! I called them and they said that the trailer did not pay. I said, "well the trailer could have not gone though the tolls by itself. Too funny! They had to look up my account and charge that toll towards my EZ Pass account and remove the fine.
But it took at least 20 minutes on the phone to explain this. Where it says, "Tags should only be used when towing" is why I asked the question above There is no answer on EZ-Pass website. As mentioned, that was the only problem I ever had.
For 8 years of that ten, I used it every day to go to work. I always wondered if EZ Pass was under one roof. Instead, it appears that each state is different. I also wonder if I'm better off without EZ Pass. Just drive through the tag reader and see how I get billed. The New York State Thruway is converting to an all tag reader service. Gonna be interesting. I've always just run a regular ez pass on my truck. Towing or not they always know. Never been mis billed.
I know in Texas there are sensors in the road to detect the number of axles. Official iRV2 Sponsor. You don't have to do anything when you tow your TT. Depending on the state, the toll is charged by the number of axles or the total weight and they have sensors to determine that. Since EZPass booths are unmanned, how could a window tag affect your toll?
When we tow our toad we have always been charged the correct toll. Been using EZ pass on mh and car for years. You can go on their web site and put tag no.
Toll booth simply counts your axles. Originally Posted by falcor. Full timers since Jan Havent tried towing the MH with the toad but I assume it will work with that also.
I live in Va. I have been having this argument with these idiots in Richmond for years. You would think that a system that is smart enough to know I have a trailer in tow, would be smart enough to charge my account accordingly. BUT, not in Va!!!! Also, it would know if I drove my RV through an EZ-Pass lane, and would gig me because I was over the weight limit although it was only 2 axles.
I eventually had to get a seperate "3 axle" tag to use when pulling the trailer, AND "overweight" tag I think for anything over lbs on 2 axles for the RV.
Otherwise, you have to go through the regular pay lanes. I looked at the website today and am thinking I will reclassify my SUV when I'm going to pull the trailer, then reclass it back to 2 axles. Originally Posted by tekrsq.

The new transponder will be active and ready for use within 24 hours in Illinois and within 48 hours in other states that accept I-PASS. If you have an old standard FasTrak transponder with no small black switch , you can choose to dispose of it the way you would a lithium battery or other hazardous household waste.
